German Society of Maryland

Amy Unverzagt Elected President

At a special Board meeting on 29 May 2025, the Directors of the German Society of Maryland elected officers for the 2025/26 year. The following officers were elected:

President: Amy Unverzagt
First Vice President: Steven Harper
Second Vice President: Zachary Butt
Treasurer: Anton Smoot
Secretary: vacant

The position of Secretary was left unfilled as the Nominating Committee had been unable to identify a candidate willing to serve in that office.

The officers of the Society are elected by the Board of Directors. Election of officers is normally conducted at the first Board meeting after the Annual Business Meeting. Because the Annual Meeting was held in late April this year,  The Board’s regularly scheduled April meeting was delayed until early May, at which time the Board decided to postpone elections until a special board meeting could be convened on 29 May 2025.

The officers  elected on May 29th will serve approximately 1 year, remaining in office until the Board elects new officers after the 2026 Annual Business Meeting next April.

Outgoing President Steven Harper was not eligible for reelection, as the Society’s Bylaws limits the president to two successive terms. Mr. Harper is now a permanent member of the Executive Committee, comprised of past presidents who served at least two years. Other members of the Executive Committee are past presidents Kraig Dean, Brigitte Fessenden, Siegfried Otto, James Schaub, and Anton Smoot.
